The Significance
"For those who participate in the festival of chariots, their path back to Godhead is guaranteed."
The Ratha Yatra (Festival of Chariots) is one of the oldest and most spectacular spiritual festivals in the world, originating in Jagannath Puri, India. It is the day when the Lord of the Universe, Lord Jagannath, along with His brother Lord Baladeva and sister Srimati Subhadra, comes out of the temple to shower His boundless mercy upon everyone, regardless of caste, creed, or background.
In our spiritual philosophy, pulling the ropes of the Lord's chariot is equivalent to pulling the Lord back into our hearts. It represents the soul's deep yearning to reunite with the Supreme. The vibrant kirtan, the massive wooden chariot, and the distribution of sanctified food (Prasadam) create an atmosphere of pure, transcendent joy.
Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON, brought this beautiful festival to the streets of major cities worldwide. Today, by His grace and the guidance of HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj, we celebrate this grand festival right here in the streets of Khopoli!
Sponsor the Festival
